Unique lithographs by Michael Gross

We are happy to present the unique lithographs of Michael Gross, done in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

“[He painted] directly on the lithographic stone. Thus the prints are intimately related to his paintings. (…) He drew in and with color. For this reason, as a result of his handling of tools, the prints attained a very special quality of freedom and spontaneity. In the 1970’s, the prints were executed mostly in serigraphy and printed by professional printers under Gross’ supervision. He would prepare the paints himself in order to achieve the “correct” hue, intensity and saturation. The prints are perfectly executed and have a quality of definitiveness which can also be felt in some of the sculptures and paintings of the period. Another important aspect of most of the prints (…) is that the whole area of the paper is the image. In other words, the white paper assumes the same importance and weight as do the colored areas: the work is the whole and not the sum of autonomous parts.”
