Barak Ravitz
Missing Man Formation
10.4.08 - 17.5.08
Opening event: Thursday, April 10th, 20:00

Dvir Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of a solo show for Barak Ravitz.

The exhibition Missing Man Formation will include a number of simple clear constructions, in which an external regulation works, justifying their being the way they are. That way, for example, a monochromatic painting in Formica, of which the almost-deteriorated colors and shapes were determined by the song "One must keep playing" by the Israeli Air Force Band. Or a large wall ornament whose elements' sizes are in standard lengths of fluorescent lights.

This regulation creates in the forms an illusion of lack of human hand, even muteness.

The human element is seen only in the video work in which the artist appears while he tries to save the space of the gallery from collapse.

The works have a dependence-abstention relationship with the exhibition walls. They lean on them, are held within them, or projected onto them, but are never really attached to them.

Ravitz is a graduate of the Midrasha School of Art at Beit-Berl, who has exhibited a solo show at the Helena Rubinstein pavilion, and has participated in a number of group shows in the last year, including "The Rear", The Herzeliya Biennale of Contemporary Art; "Raw and Cooked" at the Haifa University Art Gallery; and "Hakafot" at Dvir Gallery with Tamar Getter and Matan Daube. Missing Man Formation is Barak Ravitz's first solo show at Dvir Gallery.
